It is my pleasure to announce that the newly formed The Liminality Press has just released its first title: Leaning into the Liminal: A Guide for Counselors and Companions. The book is now listed on the sites of fine book sellers everywhere, going “live” for sales on January 1, 2024.
I have served as the editor for the project, contributing my own material as well as gathering together contributions from specialists in particular areas. I am thankful for the thoughtful work of Corie Schoeneberg, Nicole Conner, Lisa Withrow, Kate Weir, Nigel Rooms, David Hammer, Tatyana Ustinova, Hanna Kozhyna, and Debra Jarvis.
This slender volume provides a pan-theoretical approach and adapts the insights and concepts of liminality to the many helping professions. Areas of focus include the role of the liminal guide, narrative therapy, gestalt therapy, child-centered play therapy, spiritual direction, healing the wounds of war, and making the final life passage.
It is our hope that Leaning into the Liminal will serve as an important resource for those who want to weave the unique perspective of liminality into the theory and practice of their own disciplines. On or after January 1 you may order your own copy by clicking here.
Some reviews of Leaning into the Liminal:
Leaning into the Liminal provides readers with a liminal lens through which they may view a variety of modern experiences such as the global experience of pandemic, the pervasive climate crisis, and continuing economic and social instability. Exploring professional practices such as counselling, spiritual direction, and play, it brings the foundational work of van Gennep into the 21st century.

Leaning into the Liminal is an invaluable compendium of practical wisdom for chaplains, psychotherapists, and spiritual companions who guide others in the existential search for meaning amid life’s traumas, crises, and deconstructions. This work provides a framework for practitioners bearing witness to the wild and sacred space between psychospiritual disintegration and reintegration.
