Siobhán Scarlett O’Reilly, a PhD researcher at the University of Brighton, is conducting research into the emotional effects of liminal space imagery such as The Backrooms. These evocative images of abandoned or transitional places have gained significant popularity online, sparking discussions about their psychological impact. If you or those you know might be interested in participating, contact her directly at s.s.o’reilly@brighton.ac.uk. See her note following:
Through this research, I aim to understand why people engage with these images and how they influence emotions and well-being. I am seeking participants aged 21 and over who actively engage with liminal space imagery. The study involves a one-hour virtual Photo-Elicitation Interview (PEI) via Teams, where we will discuss two provided images and one of your choosing. Your participation will help explore how visual media shapes emotional experiences and contribute to this growing field of research.
